Cushions & Cramps

After last weeks party happenings, I have dived head first back into my crochet and yarn like it is a cool swimming pool on a blistering summers day.
Over January I had teased Instagram and Facebook with photos of a cushion cover I was working on and last week I was finally able to finish it!

I was originally inspired by a picture of a gingham tea towel I saw on the interwebs a few months ago which was gingham white and green with hot neon pink writing screenprinted onto it and thought that would make a funky cushion cover. I've had heaps of fun experimenting with making letters of the alphabet to make cute words like 'POP' and 'LOL'.

Then I decided to make another which I'm halfway through working on now.

I've writing up the pattern and crocheting like a crazy woman so I can publish the pattern soon, and hope to have it available on my Ravelry and Etsy shops. I did promise this a few weeks ago but I think I'm back on track now. I spent yesterday finishing up designing stitch graphs for the letters!

In a return to my love of amigurumi, I've also had fun playing around with making more of those little cupcakes.

Here is a photo of my latest one. A Red Velvet Cupcake!

Once I have finished the Neon Gingham cushion pattern, I'll work on writing this one up too. There's so many cupcake patterns out there so I plan on posting this one as a free pattern.

Sonofagun No. 2 had so much fun after his party last week. I bought him a swing set which he has been playing on almost every day after school. I actually didn't think he would use it as much as he has. He spends hours out there, mostly perfecting gymnastic type twirls on the little swinging bars where he hangs off the two handles and somersaults himself around on the spot. He also tried doing weird boy ninja moves around one of the dual swings. We warned him against it. He ignored us of course, until he swung himself a little too violently and banged himself in the goolies one afternoon while showing off to my BFF the Blonde Bombshell.

The shock and pain whipped across his little 7 year old face as he experienced that agony which all men dread on their precious jewels. The following conversation took place:

Sonofagun No.2: OMG Blonde Bombshell! Why does it hurt so much!
Blonde Bombshell: Oh sweetheart! You whacked your doodle! Of course it bloody hurts!
Sonofagun No.2: Does it hurt girls that much?
Blonde Bombshell: No baby. Girls don't have penises.
Sonofagun No.2: I know. They have to wee outta hole. WHY? WHY DO BOYS HAVE ALL THE PAIN IN THE WORLD AND GIRLS DONT HAVE ANY PAIN DOWN THERE???? IT'S NOT FAIR!!!

It is probably not good parenting that upon hearing this sad tale, I threw my head back and laughed and laughed. Then looked at the BB, and she looked at me. We shared a look of "poor Sonofagun No.2".
Then both laughed some more.

  2. There are some great clips on you tube somewhere of guys hooked up to machines which mimic the pain of labour. Maybe when he's a little older you can let him watch (not now though, you don't want to traumatise him too much!)
The cushion is going to be fab, I love the idea of the neon letters, how much fun could you have with them?!

  3. Well, there goes any hope of having Grandchildren! ;-}
Some day, you'll have to introduce him to the joys of "waxing"! And/or, all about "Brazil"...

Later conversations with his older brother must have been "interesting"!
BTW, you might want to keep those snowbank pics I've sent in a First-Aid kit for NEXT time!

  7. Oh! I've been thinking about adding some letters to my anniversary temperature blanket. I was thinking of stitching them in, but. I'd like to put the date we were married. I guess doing non-stiching would probably make for a big date. Then again, the blanket is going to be monstrous! LOL
