May Means....

May means...

...digging through the drawer to find warm socks.
Keeping the home fires burning.
Waking up at 5am to watch the live broadcast of my favourite annual TV event. (The photo below is blurry because it was still dark and my eyes and camera were adjusting to being awake at a horrendously early time).
I was only strong enough to wake at 5am for the live show of Semi final 1. When it came to Semi final 2 and the grand final I just couldn't do it. So I stayed away from the news and social media through the day until I could watch the delayed telecast.

8Track was quite puzzled as to why I was up before the sun.

But to be honest whilst I miss out on the voting, the delayed broadcasts are much more fun. Our local EBU broadcaster SBS TV has more chatter from the hosts plus they show tweets and tagged photos between songs and before and after the ad breaks.

I only dust off my Twitter account once a year and that's during Eurovision. I go a bit nuts. But it's all about joining in the fun chatter of other Aussies who are watching the delayed broadcast (we use the hashtag #SBSeurovision ), then seeing if our tweets get shown on the telly.

Like this:

Yes! That's me!
I twatted that during semi final 1 while the Ukraine band Kalush Orchestra were singing their song Stephania.  One of the singers sported a funky, knitted, pink bucket hat. I wouldn't mind crocheting a fuzzy pink bucket hat. How long will it take before that pattern starts popping up all over the interwebs?

Now I would be super lucky to see maybe one Twit on the idiot box, but later that evening we scored the big one.

They blasted our gorgeous mugs on the telly. The Bear and I in our Eurovision tees.  I accidentally twitted it backwards, but here is what we should have looked like.
I managed to get  a few good Twats up on the telly which I'm sure started to annoy Bear as I would squeal in ear shattering delight, then make him hit 'pause' on the foxtel button so I could take a photo of my miniscule claim to fame.
We also had some of our lovely friends over for a BBQ and watching party for Semi final 2, and then my sister came over on Grand Final night for a delicious dinner of Swedish meatballs, gravy, mashed potatoes and jam.

I haven't posted much lately about crochet but of course I'm doing it all the time.
A few weeks ago at my monthly Crochet Catch Up with my fabulous crafting friends I was working on my lanterns. My progress on these is super slow as all the nice times to take pattern photography is in the morning and most days I am working at my boring snoring office job.

I have been making so many of these sweet little grannies that I now have a pile of different coloured ones which I don't want for the lanterns but I am thinking of making into a blanket or something.
I have alot of scrappy balls of leftover 8ply cottons. I have also after many years started to run low on a batch of reusable cotton make up remover scrubbies.

Maybe about 5 or so years ago I made a bunch from different scrubby patterns I found online. I wanted to try different styles to see which worked better for gently removing makeup, holding make up removing liquids etc. Natural 8 ply cottons are just the absolute tits. And by that I mean they are awesome.

They hold their colour and last for years and years. I have cotton bowl cosies and placemats I made 6 and 7 years ago which have been thrown in the washing machine hundreds of times and still look great. Same for my scrubbies. But like socks, sometimes they disappear and my little collection has diminished.

So the other day I pulled out that basket of scrap cottons and made myself a handful of new scrubbies in different colours.

I honestly can't remember where I got this pattern from. It was a free pattern online that I used about 5 years ago. It is made from rounds of puff stitches.

The fat puff stitches hold fluid happily.  They are gentle on the skin. And can be rewashed squillions of times.  I make them in bright rainbow colours because why the heck wouldn't you? Although I also whipped up a lovely batch in plain colours to gift to the Bears mum and they looked smashing too.
As the weather cools and we lose more of the sun, I need more colour. I have seen stacks of fun pompom & bead garlands online, so I decided to make one.
I have alot of beads stashed and like the rest of us, a lot of yarn...
Many crafters take very pretty photos of their well organised crafting spaces. I don't have one of those. It looks like this. Chaos. And that's ok. That's how us real crafters craft yeah?

But I finished up with one of these...
It's fun and it pops.  It is hanging a little awkwardly over the blinds but literally anything will look awkward there.
So this month May means warm socks after months in sandals, lighting the fire, gloriously bonkers Eurovision and pulling the brightest colours out of the yarn basket.
What do you do to get yourself through the darker months?
8Track has the right idea. It would be so much easier if we could sleep from the beginning of May until August!

Thanks for visiting!

  2. Loved this post & although I don't watch Eurovision, I had a good giggle about your tweeting. Poor bear with your antics, but then mine puts up with a lot too. Popping an email through too soon. Love those socks. Is the wool from Little Miss Woollie? Take care & hugs. PS...emailing you soon.

    1. My Bear is a very patient fella. Heart of a saint with all my nuttiness!!! Thanks re the socks. They were my 2nd ever knitted socks. And I bought the yarn at Morris & sons in the Melbourne CBD as a splurge. I think the yarn is Schachenmayr Regia? But I can't recall for sure. Xox Louise
