September in the Garden

Can you smell this? It's my favourite scent of Spring. Go on. Stick ya nose in there!

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: I bloody love Spring!!!

The weather has mostly stopped being an ass so we were able to get into the vegie garden. I am basically a super sexy spring chook BUT with horrid old lady knees and hips. So we have decided to start building up the vegie beds. Each year we'll add another level of sleepers around the beds lifting them higher so I don't have to do so much bending.

Ugh, that makes me sound so OLD.

The Bear loves any excuse to get the tools out and start screwing and cutting and nailing stuff.  He did a fantastic job.

This is the Bear saying, "Do you seriously want me to pose with a packet of carrot seeds?"

Yes my love. Now shut up and say 'Carrots-cheese.'

Do you see how delicious and dark the soil is? Years of composting. We are compost freaks. 3 compost bins on the go at all times. 

And loads of Auntie 'Horse Whisperers' pony poo. That stuff is brown, smelly gold

And now my specialty. Lego for gardeners! I rejigged all the irrigation and added stacks of new sprays and drippers.  

You're supposed to calculate so many spinnerwaffles per gigawatt of water pressure. 

Who can be assed doing that?

Fortunately I'm kind of irrigation psychic. I just add until I feel I shouldn't. Then the Bear comes along and says, "Hey, why don't we put another spinnerwaffle along here?"

And I say, "Sssh my love. You know not of what you speak."

Bird netting to keep out the resident nuisance blackbird who we affectionately call 'Clarkson'.  It doesn't look like much yet. But as the warmer weather kicks in and everything grows, it will be great!

I also cleaned out my plastic pot collection. I don't really need all these pots. But I might one day!

I decided to prove it by sowing some seeds. Which I absolutely won't forget to water. This time.

The girls have also been able to take advantage of the warmer weather. I've been able to bring them out of the palace for some grass time. The poor grass was a bit smashed from the vegie garden construction.

The flower garden is doing its' own thing. I haven't really planted anything this year. I pulled several wheelbarrow loads of violets out a few months ago. They're still in there and came back with a vengeance but I wanted everything else to have a chance to pop up.

This foxglove has been repeat flowering for at least 4 years now.

This is one of my 'surprise' ranunculus. I planted a bunch a year or so ago. I don't remember where so each little one is a surprise.

I hope this means we get passionfruit this year!

I went over to my sisters last week to help her with some stuff and it was lovely to see one of my first Laila Persian lanterns hanging with her plant children.  I think I want to make another in random colours. Have you made one yet?

One little WIP is have going is the Alpaca Ripple Jumper from Simply Crochet issue 125. However I am just using any leftover DK acrylic yarns I have to hand. A lot of them are leftover balls of Stylecraft Special DK. I have had to adjust the sizing and hook as measurements didn't work out with the different yarn but that's what swatches are for, yeah?

I think it is going to be a nice, big, floppy, throw on kind of deal but that really takes my fancy right now.
