Russian Little Girls Cloche Hat : The Movie!!!

Yes folks, it's true!


Vicki from Off The Hook and I have been working furiously this week to pop our YouTube cherries to bring you a video tutorial for the Russian Little Girls Cloche Hat.

 They're not big budget productions by any means and this is my first go at this sort of thing so I hope you'll be kind!
We had received a stack of requests for a video tutorial for this pattern so decided to bite the bullet.

 Any helpful feedback will be much appreciated. 

 We've had to deliver it in 3 parts due to the length and size of the video.

It's been such a wonderful experience collaborating with Vicki over in jolly old England!  We're great mates now.  We've even managed to have face to face chats on the Skype!  Don't you love the interwebs?! 

 So grab yourself a cup of tea, a hook and some yarn and make a hat with us!

    Hello I am making the Russian Little Girls Hat and when I follow your pattern for the brim and I include the ch 1 it comes out with like a ruffle on it. I noticed yours doesn't have a ruffle. What am I doing wrong. Thanks for your help Vicki Bavuso Jenkins on FB or kevic2@bigpond.com I have never entered a comment before so don't know if I am doing something wrong. I tried to enter it using Google but it said unknown Google so I am doing it as anonymous.

      There are only two files in there, one is for the magic ring, and the other is for the invisible decrease. Am I missing it somewhere?

    are there any patterns or tutorials for the embellishments on the hats. I am trying to make one 'exactly' like the pink, and have the hat done (that was no problem) but am having trouble with the embellishments. Not the roses or the leaves, but the cord running around the brim...can't see good enough to figure that out. Thanks!

      The edging on the brim is a crab stitch ( reverse single crochet). If you were referring to the cord through the 3 rows of sc before the brim, some people weave in ribbon or a cord of a chain of single crochet.

    In the first video, you say the hat you are making is for a 4 to 6 year old. I need to make one for a 1 year old. How do I adjust the size? Love the videos, by the way - clear and easy to follow.

      Hi there. In the blog post for the written patterns, it says you reduce the number of double crochets in the first round for each 2.5 cm that you want to decrease by.

    Hi thank you so much for your very helpful videos! I am trying to make adult sized hats. I saw your size chart says to start with 20 double crochets. My question is do I still use a 2.5 hook?

    Well hellooo,
    I've just spent a wonderful evening following your most excellent tutorials and am almost down to the brim. Now I'm just popping in this comment to say how easy it was to follow ( once I got over that you call what we call a treble- a double crotchet) but there again, I might well be wrong because I seldom follow patterns now and am probably out is date on that score) anyway, one could simply see it. And then the little moment when you talk about two in a bed perfectly emphasised that key part of the design. So there you have it- a big well done on clarity and a big thank you from lil me all the way over the other side in the Isle of Man. I'm well on the way to having a hat!

      Thank you Petrina! And you can still call them trebles! I have a habit of using US terms (double crochet)in crochet, but many in Australia and the Uk still use UK terms (trebles!) **hugs**

    Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I had so many people send me this hat saying I should make this (little did they know the pattern was in another language)... I just happened to google cloche hat again today & your website popped up!! I was ecstatic and couldn't wait to get started. Just wanted to say thank you again, my 2 year old loves hers, and now I'm making one for my 9 month old. :)

      Did you make the hat for your two year old the size of the pattern, or did you make it smaller somehow? If you made it smaller, how did you do it?

    I worked this pattern just with a larger hook through row 10, but it was flat, not turning down into a hat. What did I do wrong?
